Na realização das fotografias de 2024, senti a necessidade de experimentar coisas novas. Nesse sentido, procurei utilizar o “flash”.

Percebi numa primeira fase que as imagens que realizei com o “flash” em 60 avos de segundo pareciam-me profundamente banais. Pretendia algo mais expressivo daquilo que é a contagiante vibração sentida pelos bombos e pelas caixas de precursão.

Foi então que arrisquei utilizar “flash” com velocidades de obturação extremamente lentas, tais como 2 avos de segundo e inclusive um segundo. Percebi que me esta técnica funcionar da forma que entendia, precisava de ter alguma luz ambiente, pois caso não o acontecesse, resultava nas imagens estáticas do “flash” que supramencionei.

A luz ambiente permite o arrastar do movimento e o “flash” permite o estatismo. Era precisamente esta simbiose que procura na realização das imagens. É um misto de presença com caos visual.

When making the 2024 photographs, I felt the need to try new things. In this sense, I tried to use “flash”.

I realized initially that the images I took with the “flash” in 60ths of a second seemed deeply banal to me. I wanted something more expressive of the contagious vibration felt by the bass drums and the precursion boxes.

It was then that I took the risk of using “flash” with extremely slow shutter speeds, such as 2ths of a second and even one second. I realized that for this technique to work the way I wanted, it needed to have some ambient light, because if it didn’t, it would result in the static “flash” images that I mentioned above.

The ambient light allows the movement to drag and the “flash” allows statism. It was precisely this symbiosis that he sought in the creation of the images. It’s a mix of presence and visual chaos.
